Marjory Stoneman Douglas completed a terrific spring sports season, which was highlighted by the baseball team winning another State Championship and long playoff runs.
Gio Rojas was Player of the Year, going 12-0 and pitching to an ERA of .72. The hard-throwing left-hander also struck out 128 batters in 68 innings and allowed only 35 hits. Rojas also hit a .375 batting average with two home runs and eight doubles while driving in 32 runs. Nick Diaz, Bennett Gary, and Daniel Tartaglia were all named to the First Team. Diaz is a College of Charleston signee and hit .387 with four home runs, 1.112 OPS, and 11 stolen bases.Â
Gary had a .369 batting average, four home runs, and 10 stolen bases. He will play at the University of Miami. Tartaglia is 8-0 with a 0.95 ERA and struck out 92 batters in 59 innings.Â
Drew Freeman, Lorenzo Laurel, and Jake Rizzo were all picked to be on the Second Team. Freeman will be playing College baseball at the University of Louisville after hitting .387. At the same time, Breylynn Courtney pitched in 19 games and went 2-0 with seven saves, including one in the State Championship Game. He is headed to Eastern Florida State University. Laurel had a walk-off three-run home run in Regionals, with Rizzo earning the MVP at the State Championship. Laurel and Rizzo combined for six home runs and will return next year as a University of Florida and Dayton University signee, respectively.
Michael Ossenfort and Chase Wildrout were Honorable Mentions. Ossenfort hit two home runs and was the MVP of the BCAA Championship. Wildroudt added seven wins in 13 games, while their coach, Todd Fitz-Gerald, was also named Coach of the Year after this team went 31-2 and recorded his sixth State Championship.
Addison Zajkowski was selected for the Second Team All-Conference for softball. The Eagles reached Regionals and finished the season 12-12. She batted .428 with two home runs, 17 RBIs, and 11 doubles after signing with Rollins College. Dani Rincoln and Boleen were both Honorable Mentions.Â
In tennis, Savita Bagirathan, a Sacred Heart commit, was named Co-Player of the Year after winning her second straight State Championships. She went 11-2 overall in singles and 9-2 overall in doubles, where she was named to the First Team alongside Dhea Bagirathan. They won a District and Regional Title, while Allison Kehler and  Zara Risavt were Honorable Mentions. Dennis Oliveria was picked to the Second Team for the boys’ team, with Jared Russinoff and Hermann Stelling being named Honorable Mentions.Â

On the track, Christopher Johnson was a first-team selection in the long jump and triple jump. He set the school record for the long jump at 6.95m, which earned him sixth at State. He also came in fifth in the triple jump at 14.44. Connor Stalling and Sahil Sule were Honorable Mentions.Â
The flag football team reached the Regional Semifinals after their second straight District Championship. They were led by First Team selection Samantha Calavetta. She led the Eagles to 13 wins while throwing for 2,775 passing yards and 43 passing touchdowns.  Courtney Heymach was picked for the Second Team after shining with 590 yards and nine touchdown catches. Daria Boykin, Sophia Dal Molin, and Savannah Tenore were all Honorable Mentions. Boykin will be playing in college at Alabama State University and led the team with 46 flags pulled. Dal Molin added and caught nine touchdown passes for 691 while having 353 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
